Nisha-Rawal-and-Karan-MehraKaran Mehra popularly known as Naitik from the prime TV soap ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ for the last three years talks about his career choices and his beloved wife.

How have you managed from being an Assistant Director to a fashion designer and finally an actor?
I never thought of becoming an actor.I always wanted to try my hands on modelling. So, I completed a course in designing and came to Mumbai. In Mumbai, I worked for some designers and styled many celebrities, Amitabh Bachchan being one of them. I also assisted some directors, including the likes of Ram Gopal Varma. After that I made my mind to pursue modelling, followed it by doing some TVCs. But surprisingly, I developed a penchant for acting. I took a course in acting and tried my luck in Bollywood . I never thought I would land up on TV show but it was destined. My girlfriend at that time, Nisha is the one who suggested me to take up ‘Yeh Rishta’ and I got selected for the lead role in the audition.

Every actor has to struggle to get his or her own little space in showbiz. How was your experience?
Of course, it was not easy for me either. Surviving in a city like Mumbai for six years is a big achievement in itself. I was lucky that I continued with costume designing which helped me financially. Later, I got a role in Love Story 2050, but still movies and acting did not materialize for me. Nisha always encouraged me to be patient with my work. She is not only my source of encouragement but my lucky charm too.

What do you have to say about friendships in showbiz?
I have a few true friends who have been with me through my ups and down and I really treasure them. So, I must say I am blessed with good friends

So are you satisfied with your career graph? Is Bollywood still on the cards?
Well, hope to do Hollywood projects someday! But jokes apart, some Bollywood offers are coming my way but cannot commit to any other project as I have a commitment with ‘Yeh Rishta’. I can never quit this show because whatever I am today is all because of this show.

How has life changed post marriage?
Nisha has been my lady luck, my biggest critic and my biggest source of encouragement. We got married but had to postpone our honeymoon plans as we both wanted to participate in Nach Baliye 5. Our full focus is on our performance and enjoying every moment we get to spend with each other.
